BrICS CTF 2024

Bristol Industrial Control Systems CTF

Not long after taking flight from their first CTF competition. UWE CTF Falcons spotted their next CTF in Industrial Control Systems.

The Falcons were pitted up against both academic and industry lead teams from across the UK. Whilst their competitors were well-versed in ICS the UWE CTF Falcons made up for their inexperience with their fierce enthusiasm and willingness to learn.

Since most of the FalconsĀ  had no prior experience with Industrial Control Systems, they took the opportunity to go to the free ICS training. Co-ran by the Bristol Cyber Group Team linked hereĀ with documents and machines provided by Hacktonics linked.

As the day continued, the Falcons skills and knowledge were put to the test. Challenge after challenge gave way to the Falcons; packet capture analysis, logic analysis, asset discovery, data exfiltration, access control, honeypots and value tampering were no match for UWE CTF Falcons as each were conquered showcasing each Falcons determination and tenacity to show what they can do.

Everyone at UWE CTF Falcons would like to thank all those involved in putting this CTF together and we have linked organisations in the article where we could. We would also like to take this opportunity to wish Joe Gardiner a speedy recovery after suffering a freak accident literally minutes before the CTF began. From all of us at UWE CTF Falcons; Get well soon Joe.

In the end, the Falcons did not come home with a win. They did however, come home with better skills and more knowledge, and with that fact in his head. The President of UWE CTF Falcons gave this quote:

"Next Year we'll be ready. We'll be back!"
