UK Cyber Team Challenge

The Falcons participated in The UK Cyber Team Challenge. They faced a series of chellenges that tested their fundemental cyber security skills with the top 30 teams representing Team UK internationally.

The first round started with a 24-hour long CTF which one of our members saying "I can honestly say it was one of the most difficult CTF's I have participted in. A majority of the 24 hours was spent buried under man docks and YouTube videos trying to quickly learn about a topic to crack each challenge. Constantly having my position fluctuate, I just about made it to the top 200 to make it through to the next stage.

Round 2 was very similar to round 1 but it took place over 48 hours and I had finally made it to the finals. A 2-day team competition in Birmingham. The event the SANS team put together was incredible, the first day was introductions and networking where I would meet my 7 exceptionally gifted teammates from all over the UK.

On the day of the event we met up at breakfast to come up with a strategy and eagerly went into the compitition. The challenges differed from the previous 2 rounds, with each flag unlocking new categories for us to try such as reverse engineering, web exploitation, and others with an over-arching theme of investigationg a news organisation under a cyber attack. After a lot of escalating privlidges, decrypting tokens, brute forcing hashes, and exploiting any vulnerabilities we could find. We managed to get enough flags to secure us in 14th place and although we were all hungry for those top positions, I'm happy to close this chapter, proud of how far this architecture student with a passion for cyber security has made it."

We want to thank everyone who made this event possible and we can't wait to participate in the next one!
